Trucknet users submit a cargo request form to find matching vehicles. This form necessitated the inclusion of several functions.
My design aimed to create a user-centered flow that efficiently gathered and processed this extensive data, ensuring that the complex form was as user-friendly as possible.
01.
User-Centric Design:
To identify the most effective form structure, my first step was to gain insights into the users’ needs.
In this case, primary Cargo-Owner personas seek an efficient process for publishing and shipping their cargo.
User Pain Points:
Familiar with paper-based methods, not digital.
Prioritizing essential fields due to time constraints.

40 Years Old.
Occupation: Shift Manager at a Leading European Cargo Shipping Company
Family: Married with three children to provide for
Background: Aaron is tasked with publishing up to 300 cargo shipments daily on the Trucknet system to find suitable vehicles. While he isn’t highly tech-savvy, he is a quick learner when it comes to new processes.
02.
Information Hierarchy
I carefully organized the form, placing the most critical fields upfront while grouping related information logically.
03.
Challenges
Scattered Mandatory Fields
Ensuring users complete all mandatory fields, despite their scattered locations around the form.
Mitigating Data Overload
Preventing users from abandoning the form due to an overload of data.
04.
Progressive Disclosure
To avoid overwhelming users, I implemented progressive disclosure techniques.
Breaking down the form into manageable sections.
Presenting relevant fields based on user selections.
Ensuring clear and concise labeling for each section to minimize user confusion.
05.
Responsiveness
Given the diverse devices used by Trucknet’s users, I designed the form to be fully responsive, ensuring a seamless experience on both desktop and mobile devices.
to Conclude
By addressing these design challenges and creating a user-friendly cargo request form, we significantly improved the user experience within the Trucknet system.
Users could now easily input and manage cargo requests, ultimately contributing to increased efficiency and satisfaction among both carriers and cargo owners.
